While traveling from Phoenix to San Francisco, the passenger approached the cockpit while the aircraft was at cruise altitude and stated they no longer wanted to fly, leading the pilots to immediately divert to the nearest airport. Upon landing, the passenger consumed a beverage, took multiple ibuprofen pills, and then caused a significant disturbance by using the restroom throughout the aircraft, affecting the interior that had been installed just a week prior. After exiting the plane with assistance, the individual departed in a motorized wheelchair in an attempt to outrun ground staff and avoid the police called by the pilots, even shouting thanks to the crew for a safe landing as they left.
